ἀνίστημι (anistēmi)

The Greek word ἀνίστημι (anistēmi) means, according to to Thayer’s lexicon, "to appear" and “to raise up from the dead” and “to rise, stand up - of persons lying down, of persons lying on the ground - of persons seated - of those who leave a place to go elsewhere.” In the context of Jesus' persecution, Jesus is speaking of his rising from his physical body at the time of death. In the context of his re-appearance after three days, it should be noted that Jesus rose from the body at the time of death, but then appeared to his disciples three days later.
